The Democratic Party has stipulated in its statute that candidates for deputies are selected through a membership vote, in a process known as primaries, an internal competition among Democrats that has proven divisive in the past. For this reason, the deputy leader of the DP, Gazment Bardhi, is not a partisan of primaries.
However, during the interview for RTSH, he said that in forum discussions he requested that, if the process is to take place, it should be done with rules that do not lead to discord among the membership before the elections.
" I believe that the statute will be implemented, as long as it has not been changed. What is being discussed and great care is being taken to ensure that this internal process does not have consequences that destabilize the DP. This requires that every internal competition be conducted with clear rules from the start, with proper ethics and transparency ," he said.
Bardhi told the show "Pa Censurë" that the final goal of this process should not be who will become an MP, but the victory of the DP.
"Every internal process must aim at strengthening the DP, the victory of the DP. The remnants only jeopardize the victory of the DP. Whether this is ensured with or without primaries will be discussed very seriously, always keeping in mind the objective: the victory of the DP ," said Gazment Bardhi.
The primaries process also complicates the participation of coalition allies, who, due to the system, must be included in the list of DP deputies.
The formula they will choose is under discussion, but what the DP vice president says with certainty is that the new parties, which have declared that they will run alone in the elections, will not succeed.
