Endri Shabani from Nisma Thurje, speaking about the May 11 elections, said that in principle he agreed with having as few groupings as possible because the distribution of votes harms representation in Parliament.
For Report TV, Shabani said that the electoral system in Albania is designed to prevent new parties, to prevent challengers to Sali Berisha and Edi Rama from being allowed.
"It is a 2008 project that has been reconfirmed in 2024. Also, parties should be grouped within their profiles. For example, there are entities that have left the Democratic Party as a result of the lack of internal democracy there because of the dominant role of Sali Berisha and it would be good for them not to be scattered but to be in a common group. It would also be good for new forces that come from activists who have been part of civil society to create a common front, in principle it would be good for us all to create a common front against the old political class," said Shabani.
He called the clash between Arlind Qori's "Lëvizja Bashkë" and Adriatik Lapaj's "Shqipëria Bëhet" a few days ago in a protest in front of the Ministry of Interior wrong. He said that there is a clash of egos between the leaders of the new parties, but underlined that this must be overcome by them, as the only way to defeat the old political class in the country.
"That episode should have been avoided, the reason why I was not there was to avoid this kind of clash. It became clear from Mr. Qori and his activists that they would dominate, they had taken a monopoly on this issue, their behavior should have been avoided and this mentality is wrong. Competition among young people should be to solve problems because the old politics had this model," said Shabani.
"There is definitely a clash of egos here, there is a wrong way of conceptualizing politics, as a way to become someone. I do not agree with the conclusion that has been reached that the young are like the old," he added.
