How Kurum was favored by Berisha, multiplied the profits until the last graham

While the exit from Albania of 816 tons of suspected hazardous waste that came out of the Kurum company towards Thailand, has turned into a serious international concern, the opposition in Albania, led by Sali Berisha, has "dropped" reactions to the Turkish company.

The Kurum International company, which has been in Albania since 1998, had its most successful period in the years 2005-2013, when Sali Berisha ruled. Year after year in this period, Kurum has increased its activity and profits. The concession contracts during this period show that Kurum was privileged by Sali Berisha.

A big contract was the concession of the container terminal in the Port of Durrës, signed in 2011 with the Ministry of Transport and had the right to operate for 35 years. The contract was broken by the socialist government in 2016 due to non-fulfillment of conditions by the Turkish company, this was also confirmed by an arbitration court that gave the right to the Albanian government.

The government of Berisha and Meta at the beginning of 2013 but also in the following months, a few weeks before the Democratic Party left power, approved for Kurum the privatization of four HPPs (Ulëz & Shkopet and Bistrica 1 & 2).

At that time, the Socialist Party in the opposition, denounced the privatization as corrupt and with a cost of 125 million euros for the Albanians. Despite the accusations, there was no investigation by the Prosecutor's Office into the privatization of public property. The last act of Berisha's government for the privatization of HPPs is dated May 15, 2013, while the elections were held on June 23, 2013. There is a lawsuit in SPAK for these privatizations.

But Berisha was not satisfied with that. And in the last days of power, as quickly as possible, the Government of Sali Berisha gave Kurumi another concession contract. Kurum also took 67 hectares of public land in Spitalle of Durrës, to build an industrial park. In order to implement this contract that it had won in the last days of Berisha's power, Kurum, the owner of 52% of the shares, created together with another company, Ylberi LLC, the entity DURRES LOGISTIC CENTER. However, Kurum failed and after 5 years, on February 26, 2018, it suspended the company.

However, it does not end there. In the last days as prime minister, after losing the elections, on July 24, 2013, Sali Berisha put his signature on the contract, which was concluded 2 days before between the Ministry of Economy and Kurum, for the concession of the Cërrik refinery, a the building of the time of communism that had ceased to function since 1992.

But unlike what Berisha said at that time to the Albanians that he would recover an important economic structure, immediately after taking over the refinery, the new company created for this purpose, Albanian Oil Refinery, decided to sell the entire structure for scrap to the parent company. Kurum International. It turns out that the refinery was dismantled in October 2013, just a month after Kurum took it over, so as not to give the new socialist government, which had taken power a month before, even time to react. / Shqiptarja.com
