"How did Taulant Balla find himself a speaker at the Summit?", Zhupa:
Ina Zhupa

From the podium of the Albanian Parliament, Democratic Party MP Ina Zhupa has criticized the government for organizing the Diaspora Summit, describing it as a propaganda activity and raising concerns about the exclusion of parliament from this process.

In parallel, she called for a common stance of the Albanian political class in support of the rights of Albanians in North Macedonia, especially for the use of Albanian as an official language.

"I have carefully followed the statements of your MPs, as well as the statements of our MPs, regarding the protest of Albanian students in North Macedonia. I am glad that we have reacted on both sides, but we have reacted individually, as MPs or as representatives of our electorate.

It would be the honor and duty of this Assembly to react officially and come out with a joint statement in support of the rights of Albanians in North Macedonia to use Albanian as an official language.

Which comes from the Ohrid Agreement, to the law adopted by North Macedonia, because it is not a discussion of a political nature, but a discussion of a legal nature, of a national nature.

You had titled the diaspora summit "Roots elevate you." Our roots are everywhere, including in North Macedonia, and it is the duty of the Albanian state to take care whenever rights are violated there.

The way in which, Mr. Speaker, you organized the diaspora summit, I would very sincerely invite you, since you are also discussing the Rules of Procedure of the Assembly, to remove the diaspora from the tourism and culture committee, as long as you have totally ignored the Assembly, as long as the government did not see it necessary to include the deputies of the Assembly of Albania, the parliamentary committee on diaspora, to participate, to be part of and to organize a summit that would truly serve the diaspora.

When this summit, Mr. Minister, since you are here, should have started with what was done by the previous three summits. What were the objectives that the previous three achieved and what are the objectives of this fourth one?

"You turned it into a propaganda summit, where I, for example, could not understand, after you had published the final agenda, how Taulant Balla found himself as a speaker and under what title Taulant Balla was there, except as the title of political leader of the diaspora. Because if he was as group leader, the obligation was that all the leaders of the parliamentary groups would have been invited there. You use everything for politics and electoral purposes. But at least, when it comes to the Albanians of North Macedonia, let us unite, let it be the duty of the group leaders to make a joint statement of the Albanian Parliament," said Zhupa.

In her speech, Zhupa emphasized the need for more institutional cooperation and involvement of the Assembly in issues related to the diaspora, and called for topics of national interest to be addressed with political unity.
