The member of the Presidency of the Democratic Party, Fitim Zekthi, speaking about developments within the DP, stated that Basha's decision to expel Sali Berisha was a "cornerstone" that kept this political force close to its Euro-Atlantic partners.
In an interview for the show "Open" on "News24", he said that if someone has different views in politics, he can compete, adding that for this reason he is not against the candidacy of Sali Berisha for the presidency of the DP. Zekthi further added that even if Basha "can be very bad", he must be defeated through competition and party votes.
"Basha made a decision on September 9, 2021 that was defended by PD until March 2022 and I think that decision carries some political values, not against Berisha, but that decision is a cornerstone because it keeps the party on the logical track and close to our partners .
Right-wing parties do not win if they break away from the control of the old elite. When someone has different views with a politician, they can compete. I am not against putting Berisha in the race. Basha can be very mean. If you don't like it, go out and beat it or find someone to compete ," he said.
