Kuksians seem to have chosen the Socialist Party again to govern them, as Albert Halilaj won with a deep result over Berisha's candidate, Emri Vata, despite the Safet Gjic scandal.
From a total of 74 boxes, the SP candidate Albert Halilaj won with a margin of 5,000 votes.
Socialists burst into celebration with the flag of Great Albania, this a "dedication" and support for the last event that happened in Kosovo.
Surrounded by his supporters, Albert Haliaj was present in the Lidhja Prizren school gym from the beginning of the counting together with the head of the district, Pandeli Majko.
After the victory, Pandeli Majko said that this city has put them in debt, with the victory they got to lead the municipality.
This is the victory of a boy who wins in Kukës and who will serve everyone without any party distinction. We owe a great debt to Kukës. This debt is not repaid with words, but with deeds.'- said Majko.
While Berisha's candidate, Emri Vata, stayed at the place of counting votes until after midnight and left, after realizing that the trend of the counting boxes was not in his favor. Together with him, the DP deputies, who were accompanying him, left.
According to the CEC, 45.63% participated in Sunday's elections. Thus, fewer citizens exercised their right to vote, compared to the elections of May 14, where the socialist Safet Gjici won, whose mandate was short-lived due to the sexual scandal in which he was involved.
In the local elections that were held on May 14, Safet Gjici won a second term with 49.70% of the votes, Admir Sinamati from the coalition 'Bashke Fitomje', received 40.99% of the votes, while Abedin Oruçi from the European Party for Integration PEISH, received ( 9.31%).
The elections in the Municipality of Kukës come after the resignation of Safet Gjic from the post, after the publication of the video-scandal having sexual relations in the office with Alma Kaçi. Gjici is currently in prison.
The counting process started very late, as a result of a large number of people at the counting site. It took the intervention of the police to empty the gym and then allowed only a certain number of observers from the two political subjects.
