Today, after 2 years, the Electoral Reform Commission will reconvene at 11:00.
This commission is co-chaired by Damian Gjiknuri from the Socialist Party and Enkelejd Alibeaj from the Democratic Party.
The meeting of this Commission comes after the meetings that took place with the OSCE representatives in our country.
OSCE/ODIHR has emphasized its readiness to assist a comprehensive electoral reform.
The message was also conveyed by the head of the OSCE mission (January 17) through a post on social networks, after completing the cycle of meetings with the co-chairs of the electoral reform, Damian Gjiknuri and Enkelejd Alibeaj, and with Gazment Bardhi.
The OSCE called on all deputies in the Parliament of Albania to normalize the parliamentary process. The representatives of the OSCE in Tirana also inform that they are devoting themselves to the maximum in the Electoral Reform.
"We value our partnership with the Parliament of Albania. We call on all MPs to contribute to a smooth and functional parliamentary process. Unhindered work and constructive dialogue in committees are essential. Our commitment to comprehensive and timely electoral reform remains strong. Everyone's positive engagement is crucial to success!" , said the OSCE statement.
The Reestablishment parliamentary group does not recognize the current election reform commission.
Earlier, they requested to change the composition of the commission, putting Oerd Bylykbash at the head.
This request was defeated in the parliament by the majority, which decided to cooperate with Lulzim Basha's group for the electoral reform.
The head of the DP parliamentary group, Gazment Bardhi, who supports Berisha's group, called the meeting scheduled for today.
"Tomorrow's meeting is the third act of a strategy that was discussed at the meeting of the SP group. The last act is played tomorrow through the meeting of the Electoral Reform Commission with only representatives of the will of the majority. The Electoral Reform Commission was established in February 2022 and since then only 1 or 2 meetings have been held, exactly those that are being tried to be approved tomorrow have been approved. The need to refer a request to ODIHR for assistance was approved and ODIHR responded in July 2022 that it is ready and waiting for the contact points to be sent. The strategy is that there will be no Electoral Reform. Understanding this strategy, about 54 opposition MPs asked to change the composition of the commission. This proposal of ours was blocked by vote from the SP parliamentary group. Tomorrow they will continue the theater of resuming a job and then continue in silence", he said.
Bardhi said that the opposition will not allow this commission, as according to it it is not bipartisan as it should be, but only of the majority that imposes who the members should be.
"We have announced our battle to prevent the functioning of the Assembly as long as we are not allowed to exercise our duties normally", said Bardhi.
