The Democratic Party has announced that on February 28th it will hold its next protest in Tirana against Prime Minister Edi Rama.
During his speech from the podium in front of the Prime Minister's Office, the leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, announced that Saturday's protest will begin at 6:00 PM.
He invited all supporters to participate in the rally, adding that citizens will protest for Rama's arrest, as only they will overthrow the government. Berisha did not provide detailed details on the protest scenario, while organizational information is expected to be announced in the coming days.
The protest comes at a time of political tension between the opposition and the majority, while the Democratic Party has previously warned of the continuation of opposition actions.
It remains to be seen how the rally will be organized and what the reaction of the institutions will be regarding its progress.
We recall that the opposition protest held on February 20 in Tirana was accompanied by tensions and clashes between protesters and police forces, leading to arrests.
The rally, organized by the Democratic Party against the government of Prime Minister Edi Rama, began on the “Dëshmorët e Kombit” boulevard and in front of the Prime Minister’s Office building. Initially, the protest was held with speeches and political appeals, but then the situation became tense. Later, the protesters moved to the Parliament, where tensions also arose.
According to the Police, a group of protesters threw hard objects and pyrotechnic devices at the officers, while attempting to break the security cordon. The forces of order intervened to disperse the crowd and restore control.
As a result of the incidents, several people were escorted and arrested for acts of violence and resisting police forces. It was also reported that officers were slightly injured during the clash.
For its part, the opposition accused the police of excessive use of force, while demanding the release of detained protesters.
The February 20 protest was part of the political action announced by the opposition, while the events of that evening further deepened the tense political climate in the country.
