Kosovo-Serbia tensions, Berisha appeals to Kurt: Return to the Ohrid agreement!
Sali Berisha

Former Prime Minister Sali Berisha expressed that he wants maximum effort from the Kosovo authorities for cooperation and coordination with the international authorities.

He called for a return to the Ohrid agreement, which would lead to a normalization of Kosovo-Serbia relations and thus peace in the region.

"My positions and those of the Democratic Party in this case are clear. I would request and wish the maximum effort from the Kosovo authorities for coordination and cooperation with the international authorities to de-escalate the situation in Kosovo. This is our position, as I have expressed and always express that association is an inalienable constitutional right of municipalities with a Serbian majority in Kosovo, but any constant attempt by Vucic to take it outside the framework of the Constitution of Kosovo is a risk major for peace not only in Kosovo and an attempt to install the Serbian state in Kosovo, but it is a major danger for peace in the Balkans and must be completely unacceptable, so in this context our position is to return to the Ohrid agreement,Berisha said.

The former prime minister also touched on his personal relationship with Albin Kurti. Berisha said that there was no meeting with Kurt after he was elected prime minister, and he may have met him two or three times in total during his political career.

He added that he did not advise him on the actions he should take, since there was no communication during these times.

"Absolutely, Kurti has not come to my office, nor have I had any communication. Then he did not come to ask for my opinion but to support my opinion, since as you know the first person who strongly opposed the issue of the division of Kosovo was me. Then the political authorities in Kosovo started in turn. They came one after the other to sympathize with my position, but not that I had anything to do with it. Kosovo is my land, the whole of Albania and the whole world should know that I am a Kosovar. I said a word to the fighters of Kosovo in 92, Adem Jashari and his group, that half of my time I have for Albania, the other half for Kosovo, here I cannot change. Kosovo The highlands of Gjakova are ethnically part of Kosovo. The last time I may have communicated with Kurt may have been years, I had lunch once while he was in the opposition. After he was elected prime minister, I had no communication. This is the person I have met the least among the other politicians of Kosovo. I had lunch with him, I met him two or three times and that's it", said Berisha.
