Veliaj requested the suspension of the elections in Tirana, Rama is wasting no

While Erion Veliaj asks the Constitutional Court to suspend President Bajram Begaj's decree on the Tirana Municipality elections, the Socialist Party continues undisturbed in organizing structures in support of candidate Ogerta Manastirliu.

Report TV learns that Prime Minister Rama will convene Tirana's political structures tomorrow at 4:30 PM as part of the work for the November 9 elections.

The meeting of the Socialist leader with the SP political structure for Tirana will be held in one of the hotels in the center of the capital.

We recall that a day ago, President Bajram Begaj decreed November 9th as the date for early elections in 6 municipalities in the country, including Tirana.

The capital is in a constitutional impasse regarding the by-elections, because Veliaj has sent his dismissal to the Constitutional Court, an action that would have to interrupt or suspend every other act until a decision is made by the Constitutional Court.

But the President issued the decree, saying that Veliaj's dismissal as mayor for failure to show up for work is an administrative and not constitutional matter. The decree and the President's argument have been opposed by constitutionalists, who say that Veliaj's appeal to the Constitutional Court blocks any further action and that the decree issued by Begaj is unconstitutional.

However, Veliaj's lawyers, on Thursday (October 2, 2025), filed an addition to their first lawsuit, requesting the suspension of Begaj's decree and the declaration of the act as unconstitutional.
