Prime Minister Edi Rama has stated that the lack of camera monitoring in schools has been one of the main factors that has influenced the occurrence of tragedies among minors near school premises. The statement was made during the “Smart City Albania” event, where the project for the installation of intelligent security systems was presented.
According to Rama, the lack of video footage has made it difficult not only to prevent serious incidents, but also to investigate them. He stressed that with the installation of smart cameras, school yards will be monitored 24 hours a day, significantly increasing the level of security.
"They come to the directorate, press the button and see what happened specifically. The tragedies we have had with schools are related to many reasons, but they are definitely also related to the fact that not having clear views ahead makes the work of investigators and the police even more difficult. With this system, the perimeter of the school yard is monitored 24 hours a day.
Another element that is very important is the one related to property, to the violation of property. What happens on national roads needs to be very transparent, where the Traffic Police have surprisingly turned a blind eye on national roads, this is no longer allowed and with the administration system that our friends from Abu Dhabi will bring, there is a clear protocol where no one can turn a blind eye anymore", he said.
