The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, speaks out against the international community claiming that it is using two standards for the Pristina-Belgrade dialogue.
"They pretend to be naive in the West, so they don't see what exactly Kurti said. If I had said what he said, I would have been hanged in Berlin, Brussels and Washington, but these are double standards", he underlined, without specifying which statement of the prime minister of Kosovo he was talking about.
Vucic sidestepped the question of whether the EU's proposal to move forward at Thursday's meeting included a condition for Serbia not to oppose Kosovo's membership in international organizations.
"Even when the EU accuses Kurt as guilty, I must be guilty despite the fact that there is no agreement", the Serbian president emphasized.
An unsuccessful meeting was the one between the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti and the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, with the mediation of the European Union on September 14.
According to the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, the EU came up with a compromise proposal, which Kurti refused.
"Unfortunately, after the long meeting, Kurti was not ready to go ahead, start a credible process for the establishment of the Association. He insisted on formalizing the de facto recognition as a first step. I must say that the President of Serbia has accepted the proposal of the European Union for the implementation of the agreement. He came with another proposal, but he agreed with our proposal. They tried a lot but it was impossible to achieve anything", said the Head of Diplomacy of the European Union, Josep Borrell.
However, the head of the government of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, says that in this meeting he was the only one who brought a proposal to the table, a guide for the sequencing of the implementation plan of the normalization agreement.
"The President of Serbia did not give any proposal and the meeting did not have a result. It was not possible to have a compromise since there can be no compromise between the proposal with sequence and the old conditionality", said Kurti.
Kurti accused the mediators of bias in the process.
"It is a pity that Lajcak has accepted such a condition and has made the condition from Serbia in violation of his function as a facilitator... And I could not accept such a condition by infringing Kosovo, whose prime minister I am . Even this old document, which represents the conditionality document that the Association once saw, is in our hands and we were not aware that there was such a thing", said Kurti.
Albin Kurti added that the punitive measures that the European Union has imposed on Kosovo should be removed.
