Brussels has requested that both Kosovo and Serbia implement the agreements reached between them...
The European Union has run out of patience with Kosovo and Serbia. Yesterday, the meeting between Kurti and Vučić did not yield results and it seems that now there will be consequences.
The EU's special representative for the dialogue between the two countries, Miroslav Lajçak, has set the end of the year as the deadline for the implementation of the agreements between the two countries. If Kosovo and Serbia hesitate, then there may be sanctions again.
" Six months passed, however, the implementation of the agreement did not begin. Both sides have a great distrust of each other. They say, give me what I deserve and then I will do what is necessary ," said Lajcak.
He added that "it doesn't work like that", as he said that this is the reason why the EU presented a seven-point proposal that allows both sides to act in parallel.
According to Lajcak, the EU proposal is transparent and measurable, it can be suspended at any time if one party stops fulfilling its obligations.
" Kurti insists on the documents, which de facto start with the fact that Serbia already knows Kosovo and only then does its part of the work, which of course is not the right way forward ," explained the Slovak diplomat.
Meanwhile, the EU spokesman, Peter Stano, has threatened both countries with sanctions if they continue to delay the dialogue between them.
" If any member of the EU does not see steps for extension, additional measures can be introduced for Kosovo, but also for the other side. This is a process that the members are following, they are not satisfied with the development of events. They had different expectations and if the situation continues to develop like this, it will bring more specific answers ", said Stano.
According to him, the special envoy for the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, Miroslav Lajçak, has started to inform the member states about the September 14 meeting, and after the analysis, the member states will decide what will happen next.
