Prime Minister Edi Rama seems to be losing support in the country due to the developments of recent days.
The Constitutional Court overturned the plan to hold elections in Tirana, while Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku has been named as a defendant by SPAK.
These developments forced Rama not to go to Brussels, as Wednesday was an intense day of meetings for the head of government, who is attempting to shift focus and keep the party united.
During the morning, Rama gathered at the Prime Minister's Office for approximately 60 minutes the heads of parliamentary committees led by the Socialist Party, as well as the Speaker of the Assembly Niko Pelesh and the head of the SP parliamentary group, Taulant Balla. According to media sources, the focus was on the budget, but also other issues.
However, it is learned that at 19:00, Prime Minister Edi Rama has called a meeting at the SP headquarters of Tirana MPs. It is learned that they have been asked to be all present. The focus of the meeting is not officially known, but it is learned that the budget will be discussed, while it is not excluded that the decision of the Constitutional Court will also be affected.
The court ruled Erion Veliaj's dismissal illegal and practically there can be no elections in Tirana. But Rama wants to keep the socialist structures active.
According to sources, Rama will ask at the meeting that everyone go out into the field and present the budget. The focus will be on pensioners, given that an increase in pensions is foreseen. The SP's strategy will be for MPs and ministers to go out into the field and have meetings with the elderly, but not only, to explain the new budget to them.
So it seems that the head of government will use the budget to channel public opinion elsewhere. But the possibility cannot be ruled out to discuss what will happen now with the Municipality of Tirana, given that the Constitutional Court blocked the elections.
