The KFOR mission has come out with an explanation after the statements of the British MP, Alicia Kearns, who said that there are weapons being smuggled from Serbia to Kosovo through ambulances and being unloaded in Orthodox churches.
KFOR says that "the event mentioned by the British MP refers to the year 2022 when the Royal Fusilier Battalion was engaged in the north of Kosovo in support of the KFOR mission".
They further inform that the case was reported to the Headquarters.
"The alleged presence of illegal weapons has been reported to the KFOR Headquarters, but after further investigations to find confirmation of this, no evidence has emerged for what was reported", KFOR- for the Express newspaper emphasizes .
The NATO military mission says that "there is no evidence even regarding the alleged smuggling carried out through the administrative border line between Kosovo and Serbia in Orthodox churches by ambulances".
According to KFOR, the Kosovo Police is responsible for the issue of smuggling.
"For complete information, this type of activity belongs to the rule of law, which is under the responsibility of the Security Organizations of Kosovo", they emphasize.
The British MP, raising concerns about security in this part of the country, said that the British government is also aware of this.
“The government is aware, with the Fusiliers [British military regiment] having just returned from serving in KFOR, that there are weapons being smuggled across the border from Serbia into Orthodox churches in ambulances. When our troops are made aware of this and try to get permission to go and get them, the permissions take too long. Until the moment that there are unexpected permits, an ambulance has already gone to the church and unloaded all the weapons again", she said yesterday.
