The commander of the American peacekeeping troops in Kosovo said that his country's forces are equipped and ready to prevent any violence in the north of Kosovo. NATO has boosted its presence in Kosovo by 1,000 more troops after violence erupted last September, during which a policeman was killed in a shootout between Kosovo police and gunmen who entered from Serbia.
Some of the American soldiers are located in the 'Nothing Hill' camp near the city of Leposaviq, in the north of Kosovo, and they patrol the roads that connect Kosovo with Serbia.
"We are ready to react to anything and we are well prepared, well trained and equipped to react to anything that can happen here. I am sure of that", says Colonel Ross Walker, Commander of the American troops in Kosovo.
American soldiers park their white trucks, which are not armored, near the border with Serbia and then walk by metal bars that until recently held signs that signaled the border line between Kosovo and Serbia.
"I think the key to this is peaceful dialogue. Although we are ready to react to anything, our desire is to always do things through a dialogue against any kind of violence", says American Colonel, Ross Walker.
"We come here quite often. I can't talk about any details about what we have, or haven't seen, but if we notice something, the information is passed on to local law enforcement," says US Army Lieutenant in Kosovo, Mcveigh.
