The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belgium, Hadja Lahbib, in a joint conference with Kosovo's chief diplomat Donika Gërvalla, said that the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia is the only possibility for European integration of both countries.
"We talked about the dialogue between Pristina and Belgrade. Significant steps have been taken in normalizing relations and it is very important that there are no tensions. Normalization is the only way for agreement and for the integration of both sides in the European Union", said Lahbib after the meeting with Gervalla, In these challenging times it is in our primary interest to stay as close as possible, as we are now.
The Belgian chief diplomat also expressed that she is "satisfied" with the strong ties between Kosovo and Belgium.
While her counterpart, Gërvalla thanks her for the commitment of the Kingdom of Belgium to help Kosovo along the entire path of its state building and also for the sincere partnership and the strong partnership that connects the two countries.
"Belgium was one of the first countries to recognize Kosovo's independence in 2008 and we worked on many different issues", she emphasized, while also mentioning the Kosovar diaspora there, for which she said that "they have become part of Belgian society by enriched even further", said the Belgian chief diplomat.
"We are here to take a step further to deepen our relations" , replied Gërvalla.
Gërvalla also said that security, geopolitical and regional challenges were also the subject of discussion.
"Not only Kosovo is facing many challenges due to the very aggressive behavior of its neighbor (Serbia), but also Europe in general, the entire Western world is facing dangers that we can only face together. " she continued.
Furthermore, Gërvalla stated that he informed his Belgian counterpart about the process of managing the threats that Kosovo faces, with the hope that the European Union will be clearer and more vocal in the processes that endanger security and peace in the region.
