The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has said that Sunday's attack in Banjska in Zveçan has exposed the difficulties and the need for international cooperation in maintaining, protecting and controlling the borders with Serbia.
On September 24, in that area, the Kosovo Police clashed with an armed group and as a result a police officer and three attackers were killed. Eight other suspects have been arrested.
According to the Prime Minister, on September 24, Kosovo's national security was endangered and the readiness of "criminal and terrorist groups, which we have been fighting for more than two and a half years," was revealed.
"With over 5 million euros worth of military weaponry, and sufficient quantities, for a group of hundreds of fighters, the scenario for bloodshed in Kosovo has been proven," said Kurti.
Kurti started the Government meeting with a minute of silence in honor of the murdered police officer.
"The border with Serbia, more than the long border line and the mountainous terrain, especially in the northern part, is made particularly dangerous and difficult by the behavior and appetite of official Belgrade", he said.
He said that the participation of the vice-president of the Serbian List, Millan Radoicic, in this attack, which Kurti has called a terrorist, has proven "the vital importance of the revival of the political pluralism of the Serbs in Kosovo".
"There is no democracy and freedom without pluralism. Kosovo Serbs must be freed from the tutelage of Serbia", continues the Prime Minister of Kosovo.
The Minister of Internal Affairs of Kosovo, Xhelal Sveçla, has accused Radoicic of having organized and participated in the attack.
Kosovo authorities have considered Serbia responsible for this attack, while the Serbian president, Aleksandar Vučić, has said that the attackers were Kosovo Serbs, fed up with the "terror" of Kurti.
The road leading to the village of Banjské in Zveçan continues to be blocked by the Kosovo Police.
The Deputy Director of Police for the North region, Veton Elshani, told REL that this village will continue to be blocked until the afternoon, when the authorities are expected to make a decision.
