Lumir Abdixhiku will continue as head of the Democratic League of Kosovo
Lumir Abdixhiku has survived the vote of confidence he requested in the Assembly of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK). He has offered the party's Assembly his resignation from the position of chairman, following the results of the early parliamentary elections of December 28, 2025, where the LDK won 13.24% of the vote, the second worst result since the post-war period.
But, some party figures have demanded his irrevocable resignation, disagreeing with a vote of confidence.
"I have chosen to come before you, not because it is easy for me, but because I feel it is necessary, because I have always believed that a person is not measured when everything goes well, but when he has to speak even when his words tremble," Abdixhiku said during a speech held on Saturday before the party assembly.
Former Prime Minister of Kosovo, Avdullah Hoti, announced his candidacy for party chairman a few days ago.
The Democratic League of Kosovo is one of the oldest parties in Kosovo, founded in 1989 by Ibrahim Rugova.
It played a key role in the period of peaceful resistance and in the building of the country's democratic institutions.
