The EU special emissary said that the events of September 24 cannot change the fact that Kosovo and Serbia have concluded an agreement for the normalization of relations, as he emphasized the need for the establishment of the Association of Municipalities with a Serbian majority...
Prime Minister Albin Kurti's meeting with the five US-EU diplomats has ended. For almost 2 hours, they discussed the reduction of tensions with Serbia, as the special envoy of the European Union for the dialogue, Mirolav Lajçak, gave more details.
He said that a plan has been put on the table for Kurti to restore the dialogue. According to Lajçk, there is no other way but negotiations.
" We always have a plan, so even today we have a plan. We have discussed it with Prime Minister Kurti and we will discuss it with President Vucic. Can't go into details at this time. There is no alternative to dialogue because dialogue brings normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia and paves the way for the EU for both countries ", said Lajçak.
Lajçak said that he and Kurt talked about the advancement of the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia and progress in the implementation of past agreements.
" We have carefully listened to Kurti's positions and his concerns regarding the security situation in the north of Kosovo, and I want to say that the attack on the KP by armed individuals is a clear escalation. We expressed our condolences to Prime Minister Kurti and strongly condemned the September 24 attack. We made it clear that all attackers must be brought to justice and we expect Serbia's full cooperation and concrete commitment in this regard. The events of September 24 made it clear that de-escalation and normalization are more urgent than ever. Any kind of conditionality or delay is unacceptable and we expect Kosovo and Serbia to fulfill the obligations of the dialogue ", said Lajçak.
Furthermore, the EU special emissary said that the events of September 24 cannot change the fact that Kosovo and Serbia have concluded an agreement for the normalization of relations, as he emphasized the need for the establishment of the Association of Municipalities with a Serbian majority.
" Kurti has the responsibility to advance such relations and if Kosovo will make progress towards the EU and we want to emphasize the need to move towards the establishment of KAS without delay. Without this, there can be no progress on Kosovo's European path. We appreciate Kurt's willingness to continue our discussions and now we will continue with our mission in Belgrade ," he said.
