The Kosovo Assembly has approved the formation of a new government, led by Albin Kurti, marking the start of the new governing mandate, known as "Kurti 3".
The political crisis in Kosovo has ended. Unlike what happened in the previous elections, this time the constitution of the Parliament and the approval of the new government took place within a few hours.
In the afternoon, the MPs were sworn in and the Speaker of the Assembly was elected along with the Deputy Speakers. Vetëvendosje, together with the Serbian parties, secured 66 votes in the Assembly, which meant that there were no obstacles.
After the first session, President Vjosa Osmani mandated Albin Kurti as Prime Minister, who then addressed the Assembly.
He began his speech in the Assembly with the trial of former KLA leaders in The Hague. Kurti said that the proposal of the Specialized Prosecutor's Office to sentence former KLA leaders to 45 years in prison contradicts the truth and denies the historical and political context of the liberation war.
He added that the session on the formation of the Government and the constitutive session of the Assembly were held in the late hours precisely because of the trial against former KLA leaders in The Hague, Hashim Thaçi, Jakup Krasniqi, Rexhep Selim and Kadri Veseli.
" The prosecution's request for a sentence of 45 years in prison for each, which also includes allegations of crimes against humanity, is an attempt that contradicts the truth and denies the historical and political context of our liberation war. The position of the Government of the Republic that I lead remains clear: crimes against humanity were committed in Kosovo against the Albanian civilian population; they were committed by the Yugoslav regime of Serbia under Milosevic. This is documented and internationally recognized. The equation between the leaders of the KLA and a genocidal regime is unsustainable ," Kurti said.
Then the new government with 19 ministers was introduced. After the speeches by the leaders of other parties, the government was put to a vote and with 66 votes in favor, 49 against and no abstentions, the cabinet was approved. Then the ministers were sworn in. So, from today, Kosovo no longer has a political crisis and the new government begins its normal functioning.
