The Mayor of Pristina, Përparim Rama, in a press conference reacted to the financial and institutional situation in the capital of Kosovo, saying that citizens are being put at risk like never before. Rama said that they have requested the allocation of the budget and stressed that its blockage came as a result of political issues.
"In the history of the state of Kosovo, we have rarely seen citizens endangered to this extent. For the first time in the history of Kosovo, the central government is blocking the capital's own revenues, vital services of the capital. These are elementary functions for the well-being of our children and families.
For more than a year, we have continuously and fully in accordance with legal provisions requested the allocation of the budget that the Capital needs. No request has been addressed. The Pristina budget is blocked for purely political issues, 35 million euros, of which 25 million euros are own revenues and 10 million of the government grant are blocked by the Ministry of Finance in violation of the law and the constitution.
"We have filed a criminal complaint against the acting minister Murati for violating the law. We have addressed the prime minister, the president and the Constitutional Court. The citizens of Pristina have been left without salaries and basic services are at risk," Rama said.
He announced that the situation has reached a critical point, confirming the interruption of public transportation from the following day.
"I just finished the meeting with representatives of the public transport company and the private transport association and, as of tomorrow, public transport will unfortunately be stopped. It is with deep regret that I say that I did not believe that the citizens of this country would be put at risk due to business issues," he stressed.
Rama called on central institutions to intervene immediately to unblock the situation. "In the capacity of mayor of the capital, the citizens have determined that I lead it for another mandate. I call on all institutions, officials and ministers: act. The elections are over, now it is time to get back to work," he added. /EkonomiaOnline
