The head of diplomacy of the European Union, Josep Borrell, in a statement on the occasion of the anniversary of the Ohrid Agreement between Kosovo and Serbia, said that now are the last moments for the two countries to move into the European era.
Borrell said that this agreement and its Implementing Annex were reached after months of intensive negotiations under the facilitation of the European Union to help the parties take a step forward in normalizing their relations.
"Tomorrow marks the first anniversary of the Agreement on the road to normalization that Kosovo and Serbia reached in Ohrid, North Macedonia. The agreement and its implementing annex were reached after months of intensive negotiations under the facilitation of the European Union to help the parties take a step forward in normalizing their relations.
The EU constantly recalls that the Agreement is binding in its entirety under international law. Therefore, any lack of implementation not only jeopardizes the European integration of the parties, but also damages their reputation as reliable and trustworthy partners," said Borrell.
While considering the results of the implementation of this agreement for regret, he underlined that he expects the leaders of both parties to show responsibility, vision and leadership by making progress in implementation without further delays.
"Now is the last time for both Kosovo and Serbia to break the current vicious circle of crises and tensions, and move into a new era - European. The agreement offers a better future for the citizens of Kosovo and Serbia and the entire region.
The European Union continues to be ready to help Kosovo and Serbia at every step along the way, but they are the ones who must take those steps and move forward," he concluded.
