The closing arguments of the defense teams of the former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army continue at the Specialist Chambers in The Hague. Today, the defense of Rexhep Selimi presented its arguments.
Attorney Eric Tully disputed the prosecution's claim that Selimi exercised the function of Minister of Public Order with authority over a KLA police structure. According to him, after June, responsibility for the KLA and the military police passed to the area commanders and was not under Selimi's authority.
He stressed that there was no KLA police or a structure of the Ministry of Public Order supervised by Selimi, as the prosecution claims. The defense also disputed claims about some handwritten notes attributed by the prosecution to Selimi.
According to the lawyer, the prosecution has not presented evidence linking Selim's actions or omissions to the crimes included in the indictment. He argued that no role has been proven in the commission of the criminal offenses described in the file.
The prosecution has requested a sentence of 45 years in prison for Rexhep Selimi, as well as for several other defendants in this process. The hearing is expected to continue with further presentations from the parties.
