Despite all the moves made by the government of Kosovo, the situation remains in the same state as a year ago.
Today in the four municipalities in the North of Kosovo, Leposaviq, Zubin Potok, North Mitrovica and Zveçan, it was voted for the dismissal or not of the mayors of these municipalities. This vote was forced after Serbia did not contest the elections held a year ago.
Despite the fact that the voting was initiated by the Serbian List, a few days ago it called for the boycott of this process. After the closing of all voting centers in the four municipalities in the north of Kosovo, at 19:00, the CEC said that over 200 people had voted in this process.
According to the spokesperson of the CEC, Valmir Elez, 122 people voted in Leposaviq, 17 in Zubin Potok, and 64 in North Mitrovica. Meanwhile, no one has voted in Zveçan.
The Albanian mayors of the municipalities in the north received their mandates in April of last year through elections that were also boycotted by the Serbs, with the call from the Serbian List.
In order to dismiss the presidents, 50 percent plus one voter must vote, so that the process is successful and extraordinary elections are held.
With this level of voting, the necessary curve is not reached to make possible the dismissal of the Albanian mayors of the four northern municipalities. So they still remain in office and the impasse in the north remains unresolved.
Regarding the boycott of the elections, the president of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, reacted, who said that Kosovo gave the citizens of the northern municipalities the opportunity to remove the current mayors and elect new mayors, but that they did not use this opportunity.
Osmani added that this happened mainly because of pressure from Belgrade, executed by the Serbian List and illegal criminal structures. The president emphasized that once again, Serbia made illegal interference in an election process of another country and Vučić violated the word he had given to international partners.
" However, Kosovo once again proved prudence, organization and full respect of the laws and the constitution, offering all communities, without distinction, the opportunity to choose for themselves who they want to represent them. I thank the Central Election Commission, our security institutions, as well as our partners for their work, dedication and cooperation. With the organization of today's process, Kosovo has fulfilled all the conditions required by the EU. Unjust measures against Kosovo must be removed immediately ", writes Osmani on her social network "Facebook".
Even the Minister of Local Government Administration, Elbert Krasniqi, said that the Serbian List and Belgrade ordered the boycott of the voting process in the north.
Through a post on the "X" social network, he said that the Government of Kosovo has provided the infrastructure and the opportunity for citizens to express their democratic will.
"We provided the infrastructure and the opportunity for citizens to express their democratic will. The Serbian List and Belgrade, on the other hand, once again ordered the boycott of the voting process in the 4 northern municipalities - despite calls from the international community not to do such a thing ," he wrote.
