Today, a session will be held to establish the Assembly in Kosovo. This is the 10th attempt after 9 failures. The session is expected to start at 10:00.
All other sessions have failed as opposition parties have sought a different candidate for speaker of parliament than Albulena Haxhiu. The Vetëvendosje Movement appears to remain steadfast in its stance that Haxhiu should lead the Assembly, even at the cost of deepening the political crisis.
In the May 1 session, Avni Dehari proposed that the vote for the Speaker of the Assembly be held in secret, but apart from LVV, no other party agreed. Even PDK, like LDK, considered the change in the voting form illegal.
LVV MP Hekuran Murati emphasized the request for a secret ballot and called on the opposition to support Haxhiu's candidacy. According to him, such a vote also coincides with the recommendations of the Constitutional Court and would help overcome the institutional blockade.
However, the opposition has shown a firm stance. LDK leader Lumir Abdixhiku rejected Albin Kurti's second invitation for a consultative meeting, while other opposition parties have made it clear that they will not support Vetëvendosje's current candidacy unless it changes.
Vetëvendosje has also tried to secure the support of several independent and non-Serb minority MPs. Attempts have been reported to convince Fatmir Limaj and MP Duda Balje, but neither has agreed to support Haxhiu's candidacy. Limaj is said to be seeking a broader agreement for governing cooperation, while Balje is in talks to join the AAK parliamentary group.
If the election of the Speaker of the Assembly fails today, the institutional crisis could deepen further. LVV is left facing a difficult decision: to insist on its current candidacy or to pave the way for a compromise that would enable the constitution of the Assembly and the formation of new institutions.
