
Assistant Secretary of State Brendan Hanrahan is expected to be in Kosovo as part of an official visit to the Western Balkans. During his stay in Pristina, the American diplomat will meet with the acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, as well as representatives of opposition parties.
Meanwhile, he met with President Vjosa Osmani earlier in Washington, during her official visit to the United States.
Hanrahan announced the diplomatic tour through a post on the X platform, emphasizing the importance of this moment for the region:
"I am heading to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, and Kosovo after productive talks in Dayton and Washington. It is an important anniversary and a crucial time in the Western Balkans. I look forward to strengthening ties between the United States and countries in the region," he wrote.
On the other hand, President Osmani announced that the meeting with Hanrahan took place at the State Department in Washington, DC, where the importance of deepening the strategic partnership between the two countries was emphasized:
"At the State Department in Washington DC, I met with Acting Assistant Secretary of State Brendan Hanrahan, with whom we reaffirmed our commitment to deepening the strategic partnership between Kosovo and the United States. Kosovo is ready to advance cooperation with the US in key areas such as defense, economy, and strategic investments of mutual interest," Osmani wrote.
She added, "We stand shoulder to shoulder with the US in values, in vision, and in action."
Meanwhile, the leader of the LDK, Lumir Abdixhiku, said that due to an urgent trip he will have on Sunday, he will not be able to meet the senior American official, but the LDK will be represented at the meeting by the deputy leader, MP Hykmete Bajrami.
"I have delegated MP Hykmete Bajrami due to an urgent meeting that I will have on Sunday, the MP and vice-president of LDK will be at that meeting, we will talk about our political position, about the 15 points of the unity government, and one of those points was the long-term partnership with the United States of America, and it is an informational meeting at this stage," he said.
