Andrew Tate is accused of rape and human trafficking, the judge has 60 days to

Controversial influencer Andrew Tate has been charged in Romania with rape, human trafficking and forming an organized crime group to sexually exploit women.

His brother Tristan and his two accomplices also face the same charges. All have denied the charges.

The Tate brothers were first arrested at their home in Bucharest in December last year.

In March, they were moved from detention to house arrest following a ruling by a Romanian judge.

The indictment filed in the Bucharest court says that the four defendants formed an organized criminal group in 2021 to carry out human trafficking in Romania, but also in other countries, including the US and Great Britain.

He names seven alleged victims who he says were recruited by the Tate brothers through false promises of love and marriage.

The trial will not start immediately and is expected to last several years.

A Romanian judge now has 60 days to inspect the case files before it goes to trial.

A spokesman for Andrew Tate said: "This is an opportunity to demonstrate their innocence."

In 2016, Andrew Tate, a former British-American kickboxer, was kicked off the British TV show 'Big Brother' over a video that appeared to show him assaulting a woman.

He went on to gain notoriety online, with Twitter banning him for saying women should "bear some responsibility" for sexual assault. He has since been reinstated.

Despite social media bans, he gained popularity, especially among young people, by promoting what he presented as a hyper-masculine, ultra-luxury lifestyle.
