Lady Gaga was named "Artist of the Year" last night, after being honored with four awards at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs).
She beat out competitors including Taylor Swift, Beyonce and Kendrick Lamar for the award, which she dedicated to her "Little Monster" fans and fiancé Michael Polansky.
Sabrina Carpenter and Ariana Grande were honored with three awards each:
"Being an artist is an attempt to connect the souls of people all over the world. Being an artist is a discipline, a craft meant to reach into someone's heart, where it grows its roots, and to remind them to dream," Lady Gaga said while accepting the award.
“Being an artist is a responsibility to make the audience smile, dance, cry, be liberated… It is a method to build understanding and celebrate community,” she added.
Gaga, who received 12 nominations, also won awards for best director and art direction for the hit "Abracadabra," as well as winning the award for best collaboration for "Die With A Smile" along with Bruno Mars.
Mars also collaborated with Blackpink singer Rose to win song of the year for APT, while Blackpink was named best group.
Gaga's win for artist of the year means Swift and Beyonce - who were nominated in the category - remain tied on 30 awards at the VMAs.
In contrast, Mariah Carey took home her first R&B award for "Type Dangerous" and a second "Video Vanguard" award.
Achievement awards went to Ricky Martin, who performed several hits starting with "Livin' La Vida Loca" and was honored with the "Latin Icon" award, and rapper Busta Rhymes, who received the "Rock The Bells Visionary" award.
The VMAs also honored former Black Sabbath singer Ozzy Osbourne, who died in July at the age of 76, with a performance introduced by a video message - from his son Jack and his children.
Grande took home the awards for "Video of the Year," "Long-Length Video" and "Best Pop Video" for "Brighter Days Ahead."
Carpenter's "Short n' Sweet" was named album of the year, while she was honored as best pop artist and won the award for "Visual Effects" for "Manchild."
Coldplay won the Rock award for "All My Love," while Sombr took the Alternative award for "Back To Friends" and Shakira was honored with the Latin award for "Soltera."
