Nicki Minaj was reportedly the victim of what is known in the US as 'swatting' this week after an anonymous caller told police that her 2-year-old son was being abused.
The person in question contacted Children's Services, which prompted Los Angeles Police Department sheriff's deputies to show up at Minaj's residence in California.
The rapper spoke with officers at her home. After seeing the toddler, whose name has not yet been released publicly, they determined there were no signs of abuse. However, a few hours later, another caller called 911 to report a fire at Minaj's home.
It soon became clear that Nicki had fallen prey to hoaxes and there was no truth to the fake phone calls. The 40-year-old is now pursuing legal action against those involved.
"Swatting" is the act of calling the cops or falsely reporting a crime in hopes of a large police response. Hoaxes are known to waste time and resources that could be used to pursue real crimes.
Nicki's son was born in September 2020, nearly a year after she married Petty, 45.
