A photo of French President Emmanuel Macron and Sports Minister Amelie Oudea-Castera kissing on the neck during the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games has caused a stir on social media.
Since the photo went viral, reactions have flooded social networks, where the parties have been criticized for the gesture.
"I find this photo inappropriate, it is not worthy of a president and a minister", a user posted on X.
"Brigitte (Macron's wife) will not like it. Gabriel Attal pretends to look elsewhere! He doesn't know where to stay!" wrote another.
The photo sparked backlash and gained a lot of attention after it was posted by French magazine Madame Figaro, which called the kiss weird, according to the New York Post.
Oudea-Castera has been involved in quite a bit of controversy this year. Earlier this month, she took a dip in the River Seine in an attempt to allay Olympic athletes' fears over E.coli and bacteria levels in the water.
However, a number of events, including the men's triathlon, have been postponed due to water quality concerns.
In January, Oudea-Castera was given an additional job as education minister. However, her tenure was short-lived and she was removed from the post in less than a month after it came to light that she had criticized government-run public schools.
