A serious scandal has shaken the Italian media, following the online publication of private videos of presenter Stefano De Martino and his partner, Caroline Tronelli.
The videos, which were allegedly taken from security cameras in Tronell's apartment, show intimate moments of the couple and were illegally distributed in WhatsApp, Telegram groups and a foreign website, which was later shut down.
The Italian Data Protection Authority has intervened immediately, ordering the permanent restriction of the processing of the material and warning that any further distribution is illegal. In the official statement, the institution emphasizes that the publication of such images could cause serious and irreparable damage to the individuals involved, even when it comes to well-known figures.
The story of the incident is related to the possible hacking of the apartment's cameras, where it is suspected that the videos were taken without the couple's knowledge. Currently, authorities have launched investigations to discover the authors and the circumstances of the distribution of the material, leaving open the question of whether the purpose was blackmail, material gain or simply illegal publication.
The event has caused a wave of reactions in the media and social networks, bringing attention back to the dangers of online privacy, even for famous people.
