Social media is abuzz after a viral moment during a Coldplay concert has shocked a technology company and revived the popular theory that "The Simpsons" predicts the future.
During the concert at Gillette Stadium, Astronomer CEO Andy Byron and HR chief Kristin Cabot were caught on a kiss cam getting very close. Chris Martin's comment from the stage only added fuel to the fire: "They're either in a relationship or they're really shy."
The moment immediately set the internet ablaze. On X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook, comparisons began to be made to a famous image from The Simpsons, where Homer and Marge appeared on a “kiss cam” in an alleged 2017 episode titled “Kiss Kiss.” However, many have dismissed the authenticity of the photo, saying it was generated by artificial intelligence and is not part of the series.
That didn't stop fans from passionately sharing the theory: "Is there anything The Simpsons don't know? CEO's secret affair with HR boss exposed at Coldplay concert and the internet goes crazy!" wrote one user. Another added: "The Simpsons predicted the future again with this story."
The series' showrunner, Al Jean, reacted with humor: "We do satire, not prophecy. Any resemblance is just coincidence."
Meanwhile, the consequences at Astronomer have not been lacking. The company released a statement saying:
"Our leaders are expected to be exemplary in conduct and responsibility. The board of directors has launched an internal investigation and more details will be made public soon."
Andy Byron has stepped down as CEO. Co-founder and head of product Pete DeJoy has taken on the role of interim CEO while the company begins a search for a permanent replacement.
