Are conspiracy theories true? Scientific discovery: Human memory can be hidden

A new scientific discovery from Japan has caught the attention of the academic and medical world. Japanese researchers claim to have found a way to weaken or even erase learned motor memories through a special blue light technique.

According to the University of Tokyo, scientists used blue-light lasers to target specific connections in the brain, shrinking so-called “memory spines,” microscopic structures that store memories. This made it possible to eliminate a learned skill in mice without damaging other memories or skills.

This experiment was considered a giant step forward as for the first time it became possible to selectively manipulate memories by erasing only a certain skill or memory, while the rest of the memory remained intact.

However, experts emphasize that this method is still in its very early stages and has only been applied to animals. The transition to humans is seen as too complicated and risky, as it requires genetic intervention and invasive procedures that are not currently clinically applicable.

Despite its limitations, the discovery raises the possibility that this technology could one day be used to treat unwanted memories or trauma in patients. But with that hope comes ethical dilemmas: who will decide which memories should be erased, and how can the integrity of human memory be preserved?

So far, science has only provided evidence that memories are indeed stored in specific synapses and that they can be manipulated. But the road from laboratory mice to human treatments remains long.

This study gives 'voice' to conspiracy theories, according to which the entertainment industry interferes with the memory of singers and actors. The most recent case was that of Ariana Grande. The singer was asked about her next concert and she surprised with the answer: I have to ask, because I was in a clinic and 'they' wiped my memory…..
