Adolescence star Owen Cooper made history at the Actor Awards, winning the award for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Movie or Mini-Series.
At just 16 years old, Cooper became the youngest individual winner in the history of these awards, breaking the previous record held by Kate Winslet, who had won at the age of 20 for her role in Sense and Sensibility.
The award came thanks to his performance in the miniseries Adolescence, where he plays a 13-year-old student involved in the murder of a classmate – a complex and emotionally difficult role for such a young actor.
Moreover, Cooper managed to triumph against well-known names in the industry, including Stephen Graham, who plays his character's father in the series. According to reports from the Daily Mail, the teenager's performance has been described as one of the strongest of the television season.
But due to professional commitments, Owen was unable to attend the ceremony in person in Los Angeles. The award was accepted on his behalf by actor Damson Idris.
This triumph also makes Cooper the youngest male actor to win a Primetime Emmy Award for a supporting role in a limited series, as he filmed Adolescence at the age of 14.
After the ceremony, the young actor expressed his emotions for this extraordinary achievement, emphasizing that the award has a special meaning not only for his career, but also for the family that has supported him from the very beginning.
Owen Cooper's success is already considered one of the most prominent moments of this awards season, confirming his extraordinary talent and a promising future in the television and film industry.
