Preparations for the organization of the Electoral Assembly for the Albanian Athletics Federation have started in Albania for more than two months.
Contrary to what was thought, or more precisely, the candidacy of Izmir Smaljat for the position of FSHA president came out unexpectedly, deciding to give up the sport, also because of injuries, but also because his results were no longer the old ones.
He decided in this way to face his former coach and former friend Taulant Stërmasi, at the same time the current president of the Federation, until the day of the election assembly. While in public and apparently they were still friends, under the rug the "struggle" for power seemed to be very fierce and, as it turned out at the last moment, not very honest and clean.
In order to make everything public and add fuel to the fire, Izmir's colleague and Taulanti's athlete, the European champion, Luzia Gega thought, who in an interview for "Top Channel" decided to show that an injustice and manipulation was being done. in this election process, excluding her from the race, after she had entered the race for members of the Executive Committee, and her coach Taulant Stërmasi, also excluded her from the race for president.
The argument as to why they were excluded was somewhat confusing. The last time the court, and therefore the state, knew and recognized an Electoral Assembly of the Albanian Athletics Federation, was in 2010, since those elections and since that year, the elections of the Athletics Federation have never been registered in court.
How they received grants, i.e. money, from the state and the ministry, without the courts recognizing them, this is another topic. But in order to remain in the elections, Izmir Smajlaj, who according to Gega and Stërmas has the support of former president Ruli and the leaders of KOKSH, had begun to use this space to go back in time, that is, to hold the last commission that the state recognized, that of 2010, while they also used the 2022 law, according to which clubs are required to change their legal status to associations.
Given that until now no club had been transformed into an association, according to Luiza and Taulanti, artificially within the last 30 days, the organizers of these elections had created 7 sports associations of athletics, without any connection with athletics and without any athlete.
It would be precisely those associations that would enter the elections, and not the clubs that have been members until now.
With this move, both Luiza Gega and Taulant Stërmasi were automatically fired from this competition, since none of these associations had proposed them. But the movement was apparently very controversial and the public release of these facts apparently also brought about the state's movement.
Thus, the Ministry of Sports, Ogerta Manastirliu, according to confidential sources for "Top Channel", yesterday held a meeting with the parties, sitting Izmir Smajlajn, Luiza Gegën, Gjergj Rulin and Taulant Stërmasin at the table.
This meeting, which according to these confidential sources, was an "ear pull" for all 4 of these characters, asking them to postpone the elections that were scheduled for December 4 and to return the race to normal conditions, finding a middle line, within of the law and without much fuss. There's still no official announcement, but something in all this hype is about to change.
