Eva Parera has formalized her candidacy for the elections of the Spanish Football Federation.
The Catalan lawyer, a pioneer in the world of football after opening a sports law office 30 years ago, aspires to be the first woman to preside over the Federation.
In a statement, she addressed the assembly members, asking for their vote in the upcoming elections scheduled for May 6, 2024. The candidate is particularly concerned about the recent cases of corruption and the securing of the 2030 World Cup and the celebration of the final in the Iberian country.
“I am writing to you at a time of great tension and uncertainty following recent events which have called into question the reputation of REEF, as well as that of its members, in a very unfair way in my opinion.
We are before the elections for a temporary presidency, which have been tried to be presented as procedural, but which are of extraordinary importance.
After the recent announcement by FIFA, I am very concerned about the news of suspected corruption appearing in all the national and international media, and the clamor of Spanish society advocating a change in the direction of Spanish football, the re-election (albeit temporary) of those that have led us to this situation would be perceived as a clear message of the will of Spanish football not to want to correct that situation.
I do not share the messages of others, who seek revenge and raise the sword of justice against everyone. The alleged corruption of a few cannot extend to all power, and we are not here to be either judges or executioners.
But I have great concern for the reputation of our sport and all those who make it up, as well as the huge waste of time negotiating with FIFA for the 2030 World Cup, which has already stated that it does not receive consider current leaders as valuable interlocutors.
But, I cannot and should not do this task alone. I want to contact all those who have expressed their concern in recent months, to accompany me in these 5 months in the difficult but rewarding task of returning normality to REEF", - writes Eva Parera, the candidate for the presidential chair of the Spanish Federation, in her letter to the delegates of the May 6 assembly.
