Kylian Mbappé is now considered one of the best footballers in the world, but the road to the top, according to his father, has not been easy. In an interview given this Friday on a French television show, Vilfried Mbappé highlighted the personal and family sacrifices that have accompanied the early career of the current Real Madrid and France international striker.
Leaving home at a young age
Vilfried Mbappé noted that his son was forced to leave home at a very young age to pursue his dream in football.
" I want to highlight the sacrifices," he said. "We're talking about sacrifices on a human level when you have a son who plays football. I saw Kylian leave home when he was 12 or 13. Nobody takes that into account ."
According to him, many people only see the current success of the player, but are not aware of what has been left behind. “ Now that it is a formed product, people say: 'it was done this way or that way'. But there are many things that we no longer have and that we will never replace , ”he said.
He added that not many parents would be willing to deal with such a separation at such a young age. “Who is ready to lose a child at the age of 13-14? There is no father or mother who can say: ‘my son left home at 13 and never came back.’ This is what happened.”
Personal project and the path to the elite
Vilfried Mbappé described this process as part of a clear sporting project, which later led Kylian to the highest levels of European football, including playing for Monaco at a young age. According to him, not everyone understands the dimension of sacrifice behind this success.
" It's a beautiful story, but when I explain it to some parents, they don't understand. People can't imagine it ," he declared.
Zidane and the France bench
In the interview, the striker's father also touched on the French national team's bench and the possibility of Zinedine Zidane taking over its leadership in the future.
" I don't know if Zidane is the ideal candidate, but he will be very good. We will learn that later. It will be very difficult to follow Didier Deschamps' example. We must not forget what he has achieved and the history he will leave behind ," said Vilfried Mbappé.
He also shared an episode from Kylian's childhood, when he had the opportunity to meet the French legend up close, at the time Zidane was part of Real Madrid.
" When he was little, Kylian was very lively and made a lot of noise. But when Zidane opened the door, he was speechless. From that day on, I saw him differently ," he said, describing the former midfielder as "a nice person" and "completely the opposite of the disappointments that can sometimes arise when you get to know public figures closely."
