Gianluigi Donnarumma is the best goalkeeper in the world according to the latest report from the Football Observatory (CIES), which focused on the performances of goalkeepers around the world over the last 365 days.
To determine the world pantheon in this category, CIES took into account three criteria: the average level of difficulty during matches, the results in them and the difference between the percentage of saves made and the percentage of saves expected.
According to this ranking, Gigi Donnarumma is the best goalkeeper in the world, accumulating a staggering index of 95.5 points, with a maximum of 100.
The informal podium is completed by two other big names, with Jan Somer (Inter - 91.7) in second place and Thibaut Courtois (Real Madrid - 88.0) in third, who may have lost points after their teams' Champions League matches yesterday, having conceded goals.
The top-10 is completed, in order of reference, by Stanislav Agachev (87.4), Matvei Safonov's successor at Krasnodar, Mark Flecken (Brentford - 85.9), Robert Sanchez Chelsea- 84.1), Peter Gulasi (Leipzig- 83.9), Joao Ricardo (Porto- 83.3) and Robin Zentner (Mainz - 82.2).
