History calls Berat Gjimshiti, the national team captain surpasses the Atalanta

The 6-1 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League is not a match that Atalanta fans will remember fondly. The Bergamo team fell apart in front of the Germans, suffering one of the heaviest defeats in the competition.

However, for Albanian defender Berat Gjimshiti, this match marked another important moment in his career with the Italian club. The highlight of the second half of the match was his 324th official appearance in the Atalanta shirt.

With this figure, Gjimshiti climbs to fifth place in the ranking of footballers with the most appearances in the history of the Bergamo club, consolidating his status as one of Atalanta's most important figures in recent years. He has left behind the legendary former club captain and former Italian national football player, Cristiano Doni, with one match less.

The Albanian defender now has another big name in the club's history ahead of him, Valter Bonacina, who has only three more matches with Atalanta.

Gjimshiti also continues to be one of the club's most active players in Europe's most important club competition. The match against Bayern Munich was his 38th in the Champions League, making him the second most capped player in the tournament for Atalanta, behind midfielder Maarten de Roon.
