Following the horrific terror attack on a concert hall in Moscow that left at least 137 people dead, the Premier League has sent a letter to its teams warning them of the possibility of a terrorist attack.
A message was issued on Saturday morning, ahead of the Easter matches, asking elite clubs to be more vigilant and report any suspicious activity. In addition, they were instructed to inform staff members so that they are aware of the situation, alert and able to respond appropriately.
The attack in Moscow, in which gunmen broke into a music venue and mercilessly killed terrified concertgoers, was described to the parties as the "latest example of large-scale complex attacks still taking place in the Western world".
A higher level of awareness was called for during the Easter season "due to the vulnerability of crowds due to greater numbers and the constant threats from ISIS." France raised its threat level after the incident in Moscow, while the United Kingdom is keeping a wary eye on the situation.
Pouria Zeraait, a presenter at Iran International in London, was stabbed in the leg outside his home in Wimbledon on Friday afternoon. Although the motive behind the attack remained unclear, according to police, specialist counter-terrorism experts were investigating it because of its occupation and threats made against Iranian journalists based in the UK.
The channel's spokesman claimed that its broadcasters were targeted by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, a vital security element for the Tehran administration. There is a full schedule of Premier League matches from Tuesday to Thursday.
