
Sad news has shocked Italian football. Former footballer Cristian Jidai was found dead in Lido Adriano, during the night between 17 and 18 February 2026, while he was on duty with the Ravenna Police.
Jidai, born in Avellino in 1987, was formed at the Cesena academy, where he took his first steps in professional football. He stood out from a young age with Bellaria-Igea Marina, before returning to the ranks of Cesena in Serie B. In 2008, he moved to Mantova, continuing his career in the highest levels of Italian football.
Known as a strong and flexible defender, Jidai built a solid career mainly in Serie C and D. He wore the jerseys of teams such as Basano, Novara, Lecce and San Cristoforo. One of the most important periods of his career was with Forlì, where he recorded 44 matches and scored one goal. He ended his career as an active footballer in 2016 with Pro Patria.
After retiring from football, Jidai chose to serve the community by donning the police uniform. He first worked at the Gambettola Local Police, until July of last year, and then transferred to the Ravenna provincial command.
His death has left a huge void among colleagues, friends and family, while the circumstances of the incident have not yet been made public. Authorities are expected to provide further details in the future.
