Igli Tare was fired by Milan earlier this week, along with two other club directors, Godfrey Moncada and Giorgio Furlani, as well as coach Massimiliano Allegri.
According to information that is coming to light, Tare was engaged in planning for the next season, which suggests that the club's decision came as a surprise to the sporting director. The situation is different for Allegri, whose departure was considered expected, regardless of the result of the match against Cagliari.
Journalist Mateo Moreto reports that Tare held talks with Andoni Iraola last week. The Spanish coach was considered Milan's leading candidate to take over from Allegri.
Sources close to the club say that both Furlani and Moncada have had contact with Iraola. A meeting was then held with other members of Milan's management to discuss the future of the red and black bench.
However, according to reports, Iraola does not see Milan as his first option. The Spanish coach is said to have expressed reservations about the way the Italian club is managed.
This perception, according to the same sources, has been strengthened by the immediate decision to dismiss Tara, following Milan's failure to secure qualification for the Champions League.
