The Osasuna club has failed to qualify for the Conference League this edition. The Spanish team has received a heavy penalty from UEFA, which has expelled it due to match-fixing by this club about 10 years ago.
The sports court in Spain has condemned Osasuna after many years spent in courtrooms, for rigging the results of La Liga matches in the 2013-2014 season, when through payments to other clubs, certain results were agreed upon that enabled them to survive in the La Liga.
UEFA announced two weeks ago that it had expelled Osasuna from the Conference League, after this club had secured participation with the 7th place in the championship. While today, it was the club itself, which in an official statement confirmed that the same decision had been upheld by the UEFA Appeals Commission, with the KAS of Lausanne remaining the only solution to this situation.
Although the Spaniards announced that they would go to the international court of arbitration to reverse UEFA's decision, its precedents make it almost impossible for this case to have a different course. Thus, instead of Osasuna, Athletic Bilbao, which ranked 8th in the last championship, is expected to go to this event.
