The club reported structural damage, objects thrown at Barcelona supporters and numerous acts of vandalism. Barcelona sent a report to UEFA demanding financial compensation from the German club following the damage.
The return of the Champions League to the renovated Camp Nou stadium resulted in an important victory for Barça, but also in a bad incident that has caused deep indignation within the club.
What should have been a night of European football was spoiled by the violent and completely out-of-control behavior of 2,300 Eintracht Frankfurt fans stationed in the traveling fan zone.
Following the events of 2022 – when thousands of German fans occupied a large part of the stadium – Barça had tightened its protocols to prevent similar situations. Although this time they managed to maintain control over the distribution of tickets, the behavior of some of the away fans again caused serious problems.
Some Eintracht Frankfurt fans set off up to seven fireworks, some of which were thrown towards areas where Barcelona supporters were. Lighters, coins, bottles, beer glasses and even urine were also thrown, forcing many Barcelona fans to leave their seats before the end of the match. The Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan police) ejected the German fans for dangerous or aggressive behavior.
After the match, Barcelona staff carefully inspected the away section and confirmed that there had been numerous acts of vandalism. Among the damage were: broken walls, one with a large hole, torn seats, damage to several rows and vandalized toilets with broken parts.
The club compiled a full inventory of the damage, which was submitted to UEFA along with a detailed report on the fans' behaviour. Barcelona believes that Eintracht Frankfurt should compensate for the damage caused by German fans at the Camp Nou.
Barcelona are now awaiting UEFA's response and are seeking strong action to prevent similar behaviour from recurring in a stadium that aspires to be a benchmark for a positive atmosphere and safety. The European governing body, for its part, will take action to sanction the behaviour of some Eintracht Frankfurt fans.
