Hundreds of thousands of euros gambled in a few hours, millions more in debt and threats. Italian media continue to reveal details from the investigation files regarding the betting scandal, which has involved a dozen Serie A players and has shaken football across the Adriatic.
At its center is Nicolo Faxoli, who at the time of the events was part of Juventus, and after serving a sentence from the sports court is now part of Fiorentina.
According to what prosecutors have discovered, the midfielder was "sick" after betting, so much so that he gambled more than 250 thousand euros in a few hours. He had accumulated a debt of almost 2.2 million euros to people not at all recommended, part of organized crime.
The latter kept the footballer under pressure with serious threats to get him to pay his debts.
Another footballer who was also involved in the illegal betting network and a protagonist in the investigations of the Milan Prosecutor's Office is Sandro Tonali, also convicted by sports justice and who now plays with Newcastle in the Premier League.
Italian media show how the Italian national team midfielder, also under pressure from threats, was forced to send large sums of cash to cover his debts.
In addition to cash, the organizers of the illegal betting had created a secret network to launder money, forcing the players involved to make fictitious purchases of luxury watches and jewelry.
In connection with this scandal, the Milan Prosecutor's Office has placed 12 footballers and dozens of other people involved in this illegal betting network under investigation.
