Italian Football Federation elections, two official candidates confirmed
Giovanni Malago-Giancarlo Abete

May 13 was the deadline for formalizing candidacies in the elections for the post of president of the Italian Football Federation (FIGC), which will take place on June 22.

This Wednesday, two official candidacies for the leadership of Italian football were confirmed: Giovanni Malago and Giancarlo Abete.

Giovanni Malago, who enjoys the support of Lega Serie A and Serie B, as well as the Footballers' and Coaches' Association, had announced on Tuesday evening his decision to run as successor to Gabriele Gravina, who resigned from the post. On Wednesday morning, his candidacy was officially filed through an authorized representative.

Meanwhile, Giancarlo Abete, currently president of the Amateur Football League, also filed his candidacy. Unlike Malago, Abete personally carried out the procedure at the headquarters of the Italian Football Federation.

" I am at the Federation for the meeting of the Presidency and Council Committee. As I have stated before, I am presenting my candidacy in order to initiate a phase of debates and discussions on the programmatic documents, to build the right path. Forty days are enough to discuss the problems of football ," Abete declared at the entrance to the FIGC headquarters.

The Italian Football Federation has until May 22 to announce the validity and acceptance of the submitted candidacies, one month before the elections are held.
