The Mandates Council met today to review SPAK's request to lift the immunity of Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku. The decision to convene the Council came after the European Commission's request that the Parliament address the Special Prosecution's request without delay.
The meeting is taking place following the decision of the Constitutional Court, which rejected the government's request to suspend the GJKKO measure that had dismissed Balluku from public office. The decision of the Council led by Niko Peleshi on the SPAK request is awaited.
Belinda Balluku risks up to 35 years in prison according to SPAK Prosecutors at the Mandates Council meeting.
"In the first measures requested, Ms. Balluku risks up to 10 years in prison; today, as we speak, her situation has worsened, and with the prosecution's charges at this moment, Ms. Balluku risks up to 35 years in prison," SPAK Prosecutors have stated.
After presenting the new evidence against Balluku and after being heard by the members of the Council, the three SPAK prosecutors, Klodian Braho, Dritan Brençi and Dorina Bejko, have left.
Meanwhile, discussions continue among the members of the Mandates Council, who will draft a report, which they will submit to the Assembly for approval on March 5.
