On the 89th anniversary of the birth of the great writer Ismail Kadare, President Bajram Begaj said that despite the fact that the Albanian genius of letters is no longer alive, he has occupied an honorable place in the pantheon of world literature and culture.

In a message for his birthday, Begaj expressed that Kadare will live on through his works and will continue to show the world the historical drama and vitality of the Albanian nation.

He emphasized that Kadare has made an invaluable contribution to the presentation of Albanian culture and tradition at the global level.

"Today, on Ismail Kadare's first birthday after his passing, we feel proud that the Albanian genius of letters has taken an honorable place in the pantheon of world literature and culture.

With his prose and poetry, he presented to the world the authenticity and antiquity of our national existence. Kadare witnessed on every page of his works the titanic strength, sacrifices and dedication of our people to be part of European culture and the progressive world.

"As long as readers around the world continue to read his books, Kadare will live to tell the world about Albania and Albanians, the historical drama, the pride and vitality of our nation," Begaj writes in his message.

Ismail Kadare passed away on July 1, 2024 in his apartment in Tirana.

The most prominent Albanian writer, both at home and abroad, with his books gave Albanians the opportunity to think and dream of the West, beyond the border and the darkness of dictatorship. While he introduced the world to Albania, a country with a people with European traditions and culture but which was isolated by the communist dictatorship and left out of Europe.

Sarcastic ethnographer, novelist alternating between the grotesque and the epic, IsmaIl Kadare explored the myths and history of his country to unravel the mechanisms of a universal evil, totalitarianism.
