Journalist Alice Taylor commented on today's statement by French President Emmanuel Macron on the suspension of visas with Kosovo.
Invited to Euronews Albania, she said that Macron's statement was translated incorrectly, as he never said that we will suspend visas with Kosovo, but that this could happen if Kosovo breaks the trust shown by the EU towards it.
She indicated that she communicated with Macron's office, specifically asking him if he has suspended visas with Kosovo, and the answer was, "no, it is not true and what will happen next is in the hands of the Kosovo authorities." As French colleagues reported, Macron's statement was confused and unclear.
"What he was basically trying to say is that when they gave visa liberalization to Kosovo Albanians, they believed and what is happening now is a betrayal of trust. So, they have kept their word, so they will not keep it either. It was a threat and not an example of concrete action. We have a situation where there may have been a loss in translation and Macron was not very clear in his words and it was a threat that he was trying to make it look like it could happen," said Taylor .
